Two killed in Meherpur pre-polls violence

At least two people were killed and 20 others were injured in a clash between the supporters of two groups of upcoming union parishad election candidates at village Radhagaobindapur of Gangni upazila in Meherpur on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Jaharul and Shahadul. The identities of the injured people in the clash could not be known immediately, police officials said.

The injured were sent to Gangni Upazila Health Complex and Meherpur Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Gangni police station officer-in-charge Bazlur Rahman said that the incident took place in the area around 9:30m among the supporters of two Radhagobindapur UP ward- 7 election candidates.

Additional police personnel were deployed in the area to avert any kind of untoward situation, the police official said.
