RAB finds weapons factory after shootout with suspects in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) says they have found an illegal arms factory and detained three Rohingya men after a shootout at a hill near in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya.

A team of the elite police unit came under attack on Sunday night after they had raided a hill near the Kutupalong Rohingya camp following a tip-off, said Additional Superintendent Md Abu Salam Chowdhury of the Cox’s Bazar-based RAB-15.

“The RAB retaliated when the criminals opened fire. The suspects backed away after a nearly four-hour-long shootout but three of them were detained,” he said.

According to senior RAB officer Chowdhury, the criminals have been manufacturing weapons, including firearms, in the facility at the remote hills of Kutupalong for quite some time.

As many as 10 firearms and a huge cache of materials used to manufacture weapons have been found at the facility, he said.

The suspects arrested after the shootout are Md Baitullah,19, who the RAB said was a gunsmith, his brother Habibullah, 32 and Mohammad Hosson, 24. All of them are residents of the Kutupalong Rohingya camp.
