5 dead as truck, auto-rickshaw collide in Mymensingh

Five people died and two others, including a child, suffered injuries in a collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw on Trishal-Balipara road in Mymensingh this morning.

The deceased were identified as Abdus Sattar (40), CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver; and four passengers -- Md Kalimuddin, (85), Mina Akter (45), Salam Nabi (35), and Sohrab Uddin (50), hailing from different villages of Trishal upazila, reports our local correspondent.

Quoting eyewitnesses and locals, Officer-in-Charge of Trishal Police Station Mohammad Mainuddin said that the accident took place in Rampur area around 9am.

Abdus Sattar and Md Kalimuddin died on the spot and five others were injured, the OC said.

On information, police and personnel of Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, including nine-year-old Rony Mia, and took them to Trishal Upazila Health Complex, the police official said.

Later, they were transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where Mina, Nabi and Sohrab died later, he added.

Their bodies were handed over to their family members, said the OC, adding that police seized the truck but the driver managed to flee.

A case was filed with the police station.
