Bangladesh recorded five more deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours between 8am Thursday and 8am Friday, whereas it was one death a day before.
With the latest development, the death toll from Covid reaches 27,912 since March last year.
As many as 221 new cases were registered in the 24 hours. At the same time, 219 patients also recovered across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Some 17,231 samples were tested at 834 labs around the country, yielding a positivity rate of 1.28%.
The latest data released on Friday evening took the nation’s Covid-19 total caseload to 1,572,127, and total recoveries to 1,536,111.
According to the data, the country’s overall Covid-19 mortality rate until Monday morning remained static at 1.78% and overall recovery rate at 97.71% while the overall positivity rate climbed down to 14.88%.
The seven-day moving average of single-day deaths in Bangladesh was 3.14 on Friday.
In terms of deaths per division, Dhaka and Chittagong tallied the highest with two fatalities each while Khulna reported one.
Of the new patients, Dhaka logged 152 cases, the highest among the divisions. No new cases were reported in 36 districts of the country.
Around 51.12 million people in the country have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Of them, some 32.53 million have taken both doses, according to DGHS data on Thursday.
Bangladesh reported its first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus later named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8, 2020. The first death was reported 10 days later.
