Two schoolgirls killed in Lakshmipur road accident

Two school students were killed today after felling from a motorcycle and getting crushed under the wheels of a truck in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila this morning.

The deceased were identified as Sanjida Akter, an eighth-grader of Lakshmipur Government Girls' School, and Fahmida Akhter, a class ten student of Dhaka's Segunbagicha Girls' High School.

According to locals, Arifur Rahman, who lives in the town, went out of the house for his village along with his daughter Sanjida and niece Fahmida by a motorcycle.

When they reached Palerhat on Lakshmipur-Ramganj road around 10:00 am, both Sanjida and Fahmida fell onto the ground from the motorcycle and were run over by a truck, eyewitnesses said.

Locals managed to catch the driver and handed him over to the police.

Agitated locals also blocked Lakshmipur-Ramganj road for half an hour protesting the accident.

Contacted, Abdul Hannan, a sub-inspector of Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station, said police rushed to the spot and calmed down the agitators.

As there was no complaint on behalf of the family, police permitted the burial of the two, added the SI.
