Woman to die for step daughter murder in Khulna

A court in Khulna has sentenced a woman over the murder of her 5-year-old stepdaughter in April this year.

The convict Tithi Akhter Mukta has also been slapped with a fine of Tk10,000.

On Monday, the Khulna District and Sessions Judge Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury delivered the verdict after hearing concluding arguments.

According to the case documents, Mukta got married to Khaja Sheikh, a member of Bangladesh Ansar on January 29, 2020 after he separated with his wife, with whom he had a daughter Tanisha Akter.

However, the couple had arguments over people Mukta communicated with over social media plaforms like Facebook and IMO.

On April 2, Khaja Sheikh caught her speaking on another man and threatened to divorce her and inform everyone of the matter.

On April 5, Mukta hacked Tanisha to death with a sharp weapon when she was sleeping.

Locals rushed Tanisha to the hospital where doctors declared her dead.

On May 31, the victim’s grandfather Abul Bashar Sheikh filed a case with Terkhada Police.
