Braving the incessant rain -- due to depression in the Bay of Bengal, students of several schools and colleges gathered at Dhaka's Rampura Bridge this afternoon, wearing black scarves over their faces in honour of victims of road accidents.
Like other days, they carried placards with demands for safe roads, ending corruption and mismanagement in the transport sector.
They demanded justice for Notre Dame College student Nayeem Hasan and SSC candidate Mainuddin -- two victims of recent road accidents.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Sohagi Samia, a student of Khilgaon Model College, said the administration remains silent though people are being killed on the road repeatedly.
"Despite adverse weather, we came here to let people know that we are still on the street with our demands," she said.
Sohagi, however, said they have decided to postpone their protests until the weather improves. Then, they will hold a cycle rally from Mainuddin's school to Nayeem's college. They will also hold a student-teacher rally to press home their 11-point demand.
They students left Rampura Bridge around 30 minutes later.
Meanwhile, some students of Green University also took to the street in Mirpur, protesting the death of Mahadi Hasan Limon (21), a fourth-year student of the private university.
They also demanded safe roads.
