Metro rail’s test run from Uttara to Agargaon

The performance test of Bangladesh’s first ever metro train started on the Uttara-Agargaon route on Sunday.

At a briefing, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited managing director MAN Siddique said that the metro rail would run commercially on the Uttara-Agargaon route from December 16, 2022.

He also said that the entire 20.1 kilometer viaduct of the metro rail line 6 would be constructed between Uttara and Motijheel by this December.

During the performance test on Sunday, the metro train came to Agargaon from Uttara and the speed was between 15 kilometers and 25 kilometers per hour.

Currently, under the Mass Rapid Transit Line 6 project, the DMTCL is setting up the 20.1-kilometre-long elevated metro rail line between Uttara Phase-3 and the Bangladesh Bank in Motijheel via Pallabi, Rokeya Sarani, Khamarbari, Farmgate, Karwanbazar, Shahbagh, Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student Centre, Doyel Chatwar and Topkhana Road. Following a directive from the Prime Minister’s Office, the company started working on extending the line by 1.16 kilometres up to Kamalapur.

It will carry 60,000 passengers per hour from both ends by 24 trains at the highest speed of 100 kilometers per hour after the completion.

Till November this year, the project had 72.99 per cent progress in works. The company on August 29 ran its first performance test operating a train with six compartments from Diabari depot to Mirpur 12.
