Murad returns to Dhaka after Canada, UAE denied entry

Dr Murad Hassan, former state minister for information, has returned to Dhaka after he was denied entry to Canada and UAE.

Murad returned via a flight of Emirates which landed around 4:55 pm today, said a member of aviation security of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Earlier, Bangladeshi citizens living in Toronto, as well as the city-based news portals reported that Canada's Border Services Agency did not allow Murad to enter the country as many Canadian citizens lodged complaints with CBSA against him.

"We came to know that he [Murad] was denied entry into Canada," Lutera Birodhi Mancha, Canada organiser Monjure Khoda Torik told the Daily Star.

Murad was sent back to the Middle East, according to notundesh.com.

The citizens in their email to the border services agency said Murad Hassan is "escaping" Bangladesh and coming to Canada with criminal charges. "Hassan made derogatory, sexist and misogynistic comments against women and girls in Bangladesh. He threatened to rape an actress and also intimidated her colleague to bring her (actress) to his hotel room where he wanted to rape her," said one of the complaints lodged to CBSA.

Bangladeshis in Toronto said at least 170 complaints were lodged with the CBSA against Murad.

He left the country for Canada on an Emirates flight early on Friday.

The prime minister on December 6 directed Murad to hand in his resignation. The next day, he sent his resignation to the prime minister and president.
