Body of Professor Dr Selim Hossain, a teacher of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), was exhumed from his grave in Kushtia's Kumarkhali upazila this morning in presence of a magistrate.

Officer-In-Charge (OC) of Kumarkhali police station in Kushtia confirmed the development, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

Mohammad Saidul Islam, deputy commissioner (DC) of Kushtia, said he received a letter from Khulna DC Moniruzzaman Talukder yesterday afternoon to take necessary steps for exhuming the body.

But it was not possible yesterday as it was already evening. So, he appointed a magistrate to exhume the body in the morning.

Executive Magistrate Ahmed Sadat exhumed the body and handed it over to a police team of Khanjahan Ali Police Station in Khulna.

According to university sources, Registrar In-Charge Anisur Rahman on December 5 sent a letter to the district police on behalf of the university -- requesting for thorough investigation.

Later, Inspector (Investigation) of Khulna's Khanjahan Ali Police Station Shahriar Hasan applied to the Khulna District Magistrate.

After processing the matter, a court ordered to exhume the body.

Prof Md Selim Hossain (38), provost of Lalon Shah Hall of KUET, was found dead at his residence on November 30. Without autopsy, his body was buried at Banshgram village in Kushtia.

General students and teachers alleged that BCL activists tortured him mentally over the selection of the dining manager for December of the Lalon Shah Hall.

Selim's wife Sabina Khatun has said she feels insecure. She wanted the university authorities to file a case and she informed the authorities through the teachers' association.

Professor Selim's father Shukur Ali demanded proper investigation, saying that his son might have been murdered.
