Missing Rohingya boatman’s body found after a year

Police have found the body of a Rohingya boatman, who was abducted in January and later killed and buried beneath the floor of a house in a Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camp.

Three suspects have been detained over the abduction and killing of 40-year-old Syed Amin, Police Superintendent Shihab Kaiser Khan, chief of the local unit of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn), said on Saturday night.

The detainees are Islam, 22, Abdul Monnaf, 26, and Ilias, 28.

Quoting the three, the senior police officer said: “They abducted Amin from camp No 21 in January and brought him to camp No 14, before demanding Tk80,000 from his family as ransom. Later, he was killed and buried underneath the floor of the abandoned house of one Yakub. Some 20-25 people took part in the killing.”

Amin’s body was dug up at noon on Saturday and was identified by his family, Khan said.
