Cold wave likely to abate from Tuesday

The temperature in Bangladesh saw an increase on Tuesday, and the areas affected by the mild to moderate cold wave have also become fewer in number.

Day and night temperatures have climbed a little and the trend is likely to continue, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The cold wave will likely start to subside from Tuesday, said Meteorologist Omar Faruq.

Meanwhile, the BMD forecast that the weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies across the country and light fog may occur at different places during the morning.

A mild cold wave is sweeping through the districts of Panchagarh, Kurigram, Jessore and Chudanga, and it may abate, the BMD said in its weather bulletin.

The lowest temperature in the country on Tuesday was recorded at 8.8°C in Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh, while the highest was recorded at 28.2°C in Chittagong’s Teknaf upazila on Monday.

A cold wave is considered to be severe when the minimum temperature drops below 6°C over a large area, moderate when it hovers between 6-8°C and mild when between 8-10°C.
