Five arrested over Cox’s Bazar tourist rape

Law enforcers have arrested five people over the gang rape of a female tourist at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar.

Police arrested them late on Saturday night, Tourist Police (Cox's Bazar zone) SP Md Zillur Rahman.

“Details will be provided during a media call later in the afternoon,” he said.

Police on Saturday were granted four days to interrogate Riaz Uddin Choton, the manager of Zia Guest Inn and Hotel where the woman was raped.

On Tuesday, the woman's husband and a stranger got into an altercation after bumping into one another at Laboni Beach in the afternoon.

In the evening, some men picked up the husband and the couple's eight-month-old child in an auto-rickshaw. On the other hand, three others took the woman to a secluded place and raped her.

Later, they took her to Zia Guest Inn and raped her again several times.

RAB rescued the survivor around 2am on Thursday and sent her to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital one-stop crisis centre for treatment.

On Thursday night, the woman’s husband filed a case over the incident.
