Counter terror police conduct weapon raid on Satchari National Park

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police have recovered mortar shells and four boxes of ammunition after a special drive at Satchari National Park in Habiganj.

The bullets and shells were found after a raid inside the park around 3 am on Monday morning, CTTC unit chief Deputy Inspector General of Police Md Asaduzzaman told an online newspaper.

Responding to queries from the media, CTTC Deputy Commissioner Mahfuzul Islam said that they are suspecting terrorists gathered the arms and ammunition in the forest in the southeastern bordering district..

Meanwhile, Habiganj Police Additional Superintendent Shoilen Chakma told Bangla Tribune: “The drive is still underway. Details will be provided later.”

In 2014, starting from June 1 to September 17, the Rapid Action Battalion recovered a large number of arms hauls including 334 artillery shells, 298 rocket chargers, a rocket launcher, 16 machine guns and at least 16,000 rounds of ammunition.

The same year, on October 17, three machine guns, four barrels, eight magazines, eight 250-bullet capacity belts, and a high-power radio were recovered from the park. A total of 9,454 rounds of bullets including 8,360 rounds for SMG and LMG, 152 rounds for rifles, 518 rounds for pistols and 425 rounds for machine guns were recovered during the raid.

On February 2, 2018, law enforcers recovered 10 high explosive 40mm anti-tank rockets from there. The following year on November 24, they recovered 13 rocket launchers along with several explosives.

On August 13, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) found nine single-barrel guns, three pistols and 19 rounds of bullets near a bridge along the park.
