Police inspector among 4 killed in Sirajganj road mishap

At least four people, including a police inspector, were killed and another 15 people were injured in a road accident on Natore-Bonpara highway at Gaza Bridge point under Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj district on Friday.

Two of the deceased are Satyendranath Pramanik, 54, an inspector of Rajshshi Metropolitan Poliec and resident of Bagatipara in Natore, and Sufia Khatun, 62, of Pabna district town.

Identities of the two other deceased ones could not be known until 1:00pm.

All the victims are passengers of the bus, police said.

Hatikumrul highway police station officer-in-charge Lutfar Rahman said that four passengers were killed on the spot when the driver of a Dhaka-bound National Travels bus from Rajshahi lost control over the steering and overturned on the side of the highway at Gaza Bridge point.

He said that the members of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station, Salanga Police Station, Rapid Action Battalion and Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot, rescued the victims and recovered the bodies.

The victims were sent to the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj district town.

The OC said that many of the injured passengers were in critical condition and feared that the death toll might increase.
