Bangladesh’s daily Covid cases top 500 again

The daily Covid cases in Bangladesh crossed 500 again on Sunday, a day after the country on December 31, 2021 reported 512 daily cases.

On the last day of 2021, the country reported daily Covid cases above 500 after two months. On October 13, the country logged 518 new Covid cases with 17 deaths.

On Sunday, the Directorate General of Health Services in a press release said that Covid-19 claimed the life of one more patient and infected 557 others in Bangladesh in 24 hours ending Sunday morning.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 28,077 and infections to 15,86,466 since the country had recorded the first Covid infection on March 8, 2020, and death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.

The daily test positivity rate is 2.91 per cent.

The deceased was a female in Rangpur division.

A total of 19,130 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 852 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 1,15,25,832 samples as of January 2.

In the past 24 hours, 253 patients recovered from the viral disease totalling the recovery to 15,49,557.

Bangladesh reported the highest number of daily fatalities of 264 on August 5, 2021, while the highest daily caseload was 16,230 on July 28, 2021.
