Death of Kuet teacher: 4 including university’s BCL general secretary expelled

The authorities of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) have expelled four students, including Sadman Nahiyan Sejan -- general secretary of the university unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League -- in connection with the death of Prof Md Selim Hossain, teacher of the university's electrical and electronics engineering (EEE) department.

Kuet's Public Relations Officer, Rabiul Islam Shohag, confirmed the development to The Daily Star this afternoon.

Prof Md Selim Hossain (38), provost of Lalon Shah Hall of KUET, was found dead at his residence on November 30 last year. Without autopsy, his body was buried at Banshgram village in Kushtia.

General students and teachers alleged that BCL activists tortured him mentally over the selection of the dining manager for December of the Lalon Shah Hall.

Selim's wife Sabina Khatun has said she feels insecure. She wanted the university authorities to file a case and she informed the authorities through the teachers' association.

Prof Selim's father Shukur Ali demanded proper investigation, saying that his son might have been murdered.

Body of Prof Selim Hossain was exhumed from his grave in Kushtia's Kumarkhali upazila on December 15 in presence of a magistrate.

Executive Magistrate Ahmed Sadat exhumed the body and handed it over to a police team of Khanjahan Ali Police Station in Khulna.
