The health authorities have reported 1,140 new coronavirus infections on Thursday, taking the total caseload in the country to 1,589 947.
The death toll climbed to 28,097 with seven deaths reported in the 24 hours to 8am, according to the latest data from the Directorate General of Health Services.
Another 196 people recovered from the disease across the country, taking the total number of recoveries 1,550,364.
As many as 23, 435 samples were tested for a daily infection rate of 4.86%. The overall mortality rate now stands at 1.77% while the recovery rate at 97.51%.
