Wife files GD against ex-state minister Murad

A general diary was filed with Dhanmondi police station against ruling Bangladesh Awami League lawmaker Murad Hassan, who had to resign as state minister for information for derogatory comments on women in December 2020, on Thursday for threatening to kill his wife and child and hurling abusive words on them at home.

Murad’s wife physician Jahanari Ehsan filed the general diary in the afternoon after Dhanmondi police officials’ visit to the ex-state minister’s home at Dhanmondi in Dhaka following a call to police-led national emergency service 999.

Dhanmondi police inspector (investigation) Syful Islam confirmed the matter and said, ‘Our team visited to respond the call but did not find the lawmaker at home.’

Murad on December 7, 2020 resigned as state minister for information amid protests and condemnation from various political parties, including BNP for his derogatory remarks on women.

Hours after his resignation, the Jamalpur district unit of the Awami League relieved him of his post of health and population affairs secretary in the unit for his abusive remarks.

Later, he left Bangladesh for Canada but returned to the country as Canada immigration reportedly did not allow him to enter into the country.
