Law enforcers arrested six persons including the prime accused of a case filed over the rape of two girls from the Garo community in Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh on December 27.
Of them, Rab arrested Solaiman Hossain Riad (22), the prime accused of the rape case.
Shafiqul Islam, an inspector (DB) of Mymensingh district police, said they arrested five accused from different areas.
Three of them -- Sharif, Mizan and Rokon -- were arrested from Gazipur's Sreepur upazila while Mia Hossain and Abdul Hamid were arrested from Mymensingh's Tarakanda and Haluaghat upazila respectively, he said.
The two girls were raped by a gang of youths when they were returning home from a wedding party.
After three days of the incident, one of the victims' father filed the case with Haluaghat Police Station accusing 10 youths.
While briefing media over the arrests, Rab's Legal and Media wing director, today said Riad admitted that all the accused participated at the marriage ceremony and followed the victims on their way home on that day.
Riad told Rab that six, out of the 10 accused, raped the girls while four others stood guard on that day, he said.
Riad is known as "bad boy" in the locality for eve teasing and abusing girls sexually. He used to maintain a gang of 10 to 13 youths, the Rab official said, adding that Riad was arrested once for possessing drugs.
