No plan to shut educational instts now: Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said the government has no plan to shut educational institutions due to the spike in the Covid-19 cases right now.

"We do not want to close the educational institutions. Rather, we want children to go to the institutions after taking vaccines," she said at a programme today.

The government is taking measures in this regard, the minister said adding, "Some problem may arise for those under 12. We will take decision about them too."

"We will sit at the ministry today and a meeting of the National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 is due tomorrow. We will discuss the overall situation and take decision," she said while replying to a query.

Dipu Moni said they assumed that Covid-19 infection may surge in March but it started to increase in early January.

"So we need to do some adjustment in our plan," she added.

The minister said the students have already suffered due to Covid-19 as they attended classes mostly online, not in person. The biggest way to fill the gap is to teach them in the classrooms, she said.

"But the way people are ignoring the health rules, education of our children will be hampered the most if Covid-19 situation worsens. So, we are urging all to maintain heath rules," she said.
