Fresh Covid restrictions from Thursday

Bangladesh government on Monday imposed fresh restrictions on business activities and public movement, making use of masks mandatory and banning all social, political and religious programmes and gatherings in open spaces until further order in the wake of the outbreak of new Covid-19 variant Omicron.

Students aged above 12 would not be allowed to enter educational institutions without vaccine certificates, according to a circular issued by the Cabinet Division.

The Covid vaccine certificate has also been made mandatory for staying at residential hotels and eating foods at restaurants, said the official order that comes into effect on January 13.

Trains, buses and launches would be allowed to carry passengers half of their capacities. Drivers and helpers of all the transports must have Covid-19 vaccine certificates.

All must wear masks at offices and outside their houses and mobile courts would be operated to check violations of the health rules, said the order.
