Bangladesh to use Moderna vaccine as booster instead of Pfizer

The health authorities in Bangladesh have decided to administer the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine as booster shots in place of the Pfizer one.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday issued a notification in this regard, asking all involved with the government’s vaccination drive to comply with the directive.

The government will reserve the Pfizer vaccine for students aged 12-17 and others who have already received one dose of it.

The decision was taken considering the number of vaccines in hand and to ensure that every eligible person in the country is inoculated.

The DGHS started its booster drive on December 28 last year. The doses are currently administered to people over 60 and frontline workers. A person becomes eligible for the third dose if at least six months have passed since they received their second one.
