SC’s judicial functions to run virtually from tomorrow

All the judicial functions of both the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court will run virtually from tomorrow (January 19, 2022) due to a spike in Covid-19 cases.

The SC administration issued two separate notifications to this effect today, under the directive from Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique.

The notifications said judicial activities of all the benches of the Appellate and High Court Divisions will be conducted under the Usage of Information Technology by Courts Act, 2020 and following the directions issued by the then chief justice in 2020, maintaining health guidelines from January 19.

Earlier in the day, Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique said the court functions might be conducted through virtual system again as several judges and staff members of the courts have been infected due to the ongoing surge of Covid-19 infection.

The chief justice said this while presiding over a full bench of the Appellate Division of the SC for hearing and disposing of cases in the morning.

Deputy Attorney General Bishwajit Debnath told the apex court that some law officers including Attorney General AM Amin Uddin have been diagnosed with Covid-19.

The functions of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the SC resumed physically since December 1 last year after the Covid-19 cases decreased.
