Chief Justice, wife hospitalised for Covid treatment

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique and his wife were admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Bangladesh capital Dhaka for Covid treatment.

‘The chief justice was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday and his wife was admitted earlier on Tuesday. The couple was tested positive for Covid-19 earlier,’ BSMMU director (hospital) Brigadier General Md Nazrul Islam Khan told New Age.

‘Both of them are now well,’ the director added.

The chief justice chaired a six-member online bench from his residence on Wednesday, the first day of the online courts of the Appellate Division and the High Court.

The chief justice, while chairing a five-judge bench physically on Tuesday, announced that all the court proceedings of the Appellate Division and the High Court would be conducted online again from Wednesday due to a sharp rise in Covid cases among the judges.

He said that at least 13 Supreme Court judges, 79 lower court judges, and many senior lawyers including attorney general AM Amin Uddin were infected with the virus.
