Three of a family died and two others were injured after a bus hit an auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Matuail area this morning.
The deceased are: Abdur Rahman (65), a resident of Wazirpur upazila in Barishal; his daughter Sharmin Akhter (35) and her husband Riazul (45).
Sharmin's daughter Bristy Akhter (6) and auto-rickshaw driver Md Rafique (42) are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
"They arrived in Dhaka from Barishal in the morning by launch to see my mother Shahida Begum who is being treated at National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital," said Md Tanvir, Rahman's son who stays in Matuail area.
They were heading to Tanvir's house from where they were supposed to visit Shahida at the Mohakhali hospital.
On their way, a bus of Saintmartin Paribahan hit the auto-rickshaw around 7:00am, leaving them critically injured, said Bishwajit Sarker, a sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station.
They were rushed to DMCH where doctors declared the three dead, he said.
