Five killed in road crashes on Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway

At least five people were killed and several others were injured in an accident on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in Madaripur on Saturday.

Quoting witnesses, Shibchar highway police OC Shakhawat Hossain said a “Grameen Paribahan” bus rear-ended a Dhaka-bound car in the Bachamora area at around 7:30pm, wrecking the smaller vehicle and killing Khalil in the process.

Locals rushed to the spot to rescue those in the car but a bus of “Imad Paribahan” ran over them, leaving three rescuers dead on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Khalil Matubbor, 70, Mostafa Shikder, 50, Rokeya Begum, 40, Liton Sharif, 40, and Mofazzal Hossain, 55.

Another three were hospitalized in critical conditions, of whom Mofazzal died while receiving treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital.

Police have seized the “Grameen Paribahan” bus but its driver managed to flee. Meanwhile, the other bus has yet to be traced.
