Bangladeshi diplomat withdrawn from India after sex chat controversy

A diplomat posted at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has been recalled to Dhaka by the foreign ministry after he was found to be allegedly involved in a sex chat and a video recording on social media.

A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against Md Saniul Kader, first secretary (Political) at the deputy high commission in Kolkata where he was posted around nine months ago, Toufique Hasan, deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata, told the media.

Saniul, who is in his late thirties, was sent back to Dhaka by road on January 26, said Toufique Hasan.

The deputy high commissioner also said the mission in Kolkata came to know about the controversial chat that someone had sent to them on January 25.

"The foreign ministry was informed about the chat and also an alleged video and Saniul was repatriated to Dhaka within 24 hours on January 26," said a Bangladeshi diplomat in Kolkata wishing to remain anonymous.

A departmental investigation has been initiated by the Bangladesh foreign ministry against the diplomat in this connection.
