RU student Himel's body reaches Natore; to be buried after Zuhr prayer

Fourth-year student of graphic design, crafts and history of Rajshahi University, Mahmud Habib Himel's body has been taken to his grandfather's house in Natore from the university this afternoon.

At 10:45am today, Himel's namaz-e-janaza was held at the university's central mosque. It was attended by teachers and students.

His body reached Natore around 12:15pm. He will be buried at Natore Central Graveyard after another namaz-e-janaza post Zuhr prayer, reports our Natore correspondent.

Meanwhile, RU authority handed over Tk 5 lakh to the deceased's family, according to Pradip Kumar Pandey, the university's public relations officer.

This morning, some relatives, including the slain student's mother, visited the university. Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar, the university's vice-chancellor, and two Pro VCs, Prof Sultan-ul-Islam and Prof Chowdhury Zakaria, were also present and later left for Natore with the body.

The body was kept in front of the Fine Arts Building for teachers and students to pay homage before his namaz-e-janaza.

Himel was crushed to death as a truck ran over a motorcycle on the campus last night.

According to eyewitnesses, a truck carrying construction materials ran over the motorcycle around 8:45pm near Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall, leaving Himel dead on the spot.

As the news spread, agitating students torched four vehicles including the truck and had been demonstrating in the campus and had blocked the Rajshahi-Dhaka Highway protesting the incident.
