Bangladesh extends closure of educational insts by 2 more weeks

The government on Wednesday announced to extend the closure of educational institutions across Bangladesh by two more weeks to contain the spread of Covid-19 infection.

Quoting the education minister Dipu Moni, the ministry public relations officer MA Khair said that the ongoing closure in the educational institutions was extended by two more weeks.

Earlier on January 21, the government announced the closure of schools, colleges and equivalent educational institutions from January 21 to February 6.

‘Schools, colleges and their equivalent educational institutions would remain closed between January 21 and February 6,’ said a circular issued by the Cabinet Division on January 20.

Following that, the authorities of the universities took a similar measure on their own, said the order that came amid a sharp rise in Covid infections following the detection of new coronavirus variant Omicron.

Earlier, the government kept all educational institutions shut for more than one and a half years from March 18, 2020, to check the outbreak of the Covid-19.

Later, in-person classes at schools, colleges and equivalent institutions resumed on September 12, 2021.

Until February 1, the country’s the total Covid death toll hits 28,425 and infections to 18,11,987.

The country recorded the first Covid infection on March 8, 2020, and death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.
