Vaccination of Qawmi madrasa students begins

The health directorate started a special drive to inoculate Qawmi madrasa students with Covid-19 vaccines today.

Students of Jamia Siddiquia Noorani Women's Madrasa in the capital's Mirpur area were the first to get inoculated under the special campaign.

High ups from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) including Additional Director General Prof Meerjady Sabrina, Member Secretary of National Vaccine Deployment Taskforce at the DGHS Dr Shamsul Haque and the Dhaka district civil surgeon were present at the event among others.

"Qawmi madrasa high-ups could not provide us the exact number of students. They have said there were around 40 lakh students countrywide. We will inoculate all aged 12 and above gradually," Dr Shamsul Haque told.

From November 1 last year, the DGHS started inoculation campaign for schoolchildren aged 12 and above.
