Seeking daughters' custody: Order on Eriko’s appeal on Feb 13

The Supreme Court today fixed February 13 for delivering order on an appeal filed by Japanese national, Nakano Eriko, seeking custody of her children Nakano Jasmine Malika (12) and Nakano Laila Lina (10), who were brought from Japan to Bangladesh in February last year by their father Bangladesh born US citizen, Imran Sharif.

The apex court, however, asked the lawyers for Eriko and Imran to try to settle the issue regarding the custody of the two children through discussion by this time. The children will stay with their mother till further order.

Their father Imran Sharif can visit his daughters between 9am and 9pm every day during this period and the children must be allowed to go to school, the court added.

A full bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order during hearing an appeal filed by Eriko against a High Court verdict on the issue.

Lawyers Ajmalul Hossain, Ahsanul Karim and Mohammed ShishirManir appeared for Eriko while lawyers Fida M Kamal and Fawzia Karim Firoze argued for Imran during the virtual hearing on the appeal.

Eriko is now staying at a hotel in Dhaka's Baridhara area with her daughters Jasmine and Laila, her lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir told.
