Four brothers dead as pick-up van runs them over in Cox’s Bazar

Four brothers were killed and three of their other siblings were injured after a pick-up van ran them over while they were crossing a road at Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar this morning.

The dead are: Anupam Shil (47), Nirupam Shil (45), Dipak Shil (40) and Champak Shil (30) -- sons of Suresh Chandra Shil from Sagir Shah Kata village.

The accident took place around 5:00am at Malumghat area on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway when nine siblings were returning home after offering prayers at a nearby temple, said Safayet Hossain, officer-in-charge of Malumghat Highway Police Station in Chakaria.

The speeding pick-up van ran them over as they were crossing the road together, leaving seven of them injured.

They were rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared the four brothers dead, the police officer said.

Police are trying to identify the pick-up van and arrest its driver.
