4 arrested over attack on Ctg metropolitan magistrate

Four people have been arrested in a case on charge of attacking the Charrogram metropolitan magistrate in the port city last night.

The arrestees are Rana Mortuza (45), Abdur Rahim (38), Masuka Sultana (35) and Jiban Sultana (28).

Among them, Rana Mortuza is a member of Belgium unit of Awami League (AL), sources at police said. The Daily Star, however, could not independently verify his political identity.

Abul Kalam Azad, Najir of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, filed a case with Panchlaish Police Station accusing five persons early today, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) North Arafatul Islam of CMP.

According to the case statement, magistrate Oliullah along with his wife was walking in front of Well Food in GEC area.

Some miscreants locked into an altercation with the magistrate when he asked them to stop honking on the road. At one stage, they started beating the magistrate in public.

On information, police rushed to the spot and detained one of the attackers and took the magistrate to the hospital where he received primary treatment.

Following the incident, senior police officials and judges rushed to the police station at night. Later, police conducted a drive and arrested three others early today.
