Sinha murder: Death-row convicts Pradeep, Liaqat seek acquittal from HC

Death-row convicts -- suspended Teknaf OC Pradeep Kumar Das and inspector Liaqat Ali -- in the sensational Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case today (Tuesday) filed two separate appeals with the High Court seeking cancellation of their punishments and acquittal.

Pradeep and Liaqat submitted the appeals through their lawyers, claiming to be innocent.

They appealed to the HC to scrap the trial court's verdict and order on them.

Contacted, defence lawyers Md Munsurul Hoque Chowdhury and Rana Dasgupta told The Daily Star that the trial court's verdict and order on Pradeep and Liaqat were neither correct nor lawful, and therefore those should be cancelled.

Munsurul Hoque said the HC will hold hearing on the admission of the appeals soon and the appeals will be heard after paper-book of the case are readied by the authorities concerned.

On January 31, Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail sentenced Pradeep and Liaqat to death and six others to life term imprisonment for killing Major (retd) Sinha.

The documents the case have reached as death reference to the HC on February 8 for the examination of the trial court's verdict.
