'I might become a victim of disappearance any given time'

Md Sharif Uddin, the deputy assistant director, who was sacked from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday, has expressed fears that he might become a victim of "disappearance" at any time.

In accordance with Rule 54 (2) of the ACC Employees Employment Rules 2008, ACC Chairman Md Moinuddin Abdullah terminated Sharif Uddin from his job in an office order. Lastly, he was employed at Patuakhali ACC's integrated office.

Md Sharif Uddin said he had worked in Chattogram and Cox's Bazar for most of his seven-year long working life.

"During that time, I worked against a lot of big corruption especially in Chattogram where 155 people were involved in irregularities and corruption during land acquisition for a government project. I had given a charge-sheet against 20 people for issuing Bangladeshi passports to Rohingyas," he said.

He added that he had worked on irregularities in the health sector in Chattogram.

"Besides, I have lodged a report against Petrobangla's Director (planning) Ayub Khan for his irregularities at a Petrobangla project. After that, he (Ayub Khan) came to my house on January 30 and threatened to remove me within a week".

He said he informed the higher authorities about the threat. "But after 16 days, I was sacked from my job. I was not even given any show cause notice. Fearing disappearance, I am now at an unknown place."

Meanwhile, protesting his termination, Sharif's colleagues formed a human chain in front of the Patuakhali ACC office this afternoon.

They claimed that Sharif was terminated in an illegal and unconstitutional manner and demanded to reinstate him in his job immediately.

ACC Assistant Director Md Arif Hossain, Assistant Inspector Krishna Pado Biswas, Deputy Assistant Inspector Sikder Muhammad Nurunnabi, Head Assistant Nur Hossain took part in the human chain, among others.
