Five people were killed and two others injured after a dump truck hit a CNG-run autorickshaw from behind on the Cumilla-Sylhet highway of Cumilla's Mainamati this morning.
Sub-inspector Mohammad Kamal of Debpur Police Outpost under Burichang Police Station, confirmed the matter.
Four of the deceased were identified as driver of the auto-rickshaw Julhas Mia (60), passengers Zahirul Islam (35), Mohammad Jalal (40), and Saiful Islam (33). Another victim is yet to be identified, the SI said.
The accident took place around 6am at Tutbagan area. The victims died on spot, the SI said adding that three injured were sent to hospital.
The bodies of the deceased and the vehicles were kept at the Mainamati Highway Police Station.
