Two suspected robbers lynched in Manikganj

Two suspected robbers have succumbed to their injuries while another is receiving treatment at a hospital after being beaten up by locals following what is believed to be a robbery in a village in Manikganj Sadar upazila.

According to local trader Ali Ahmed, some 10 armed men in masks forced their way into his house at around 3:30am on Thursday, before stealing about 116 grams of gold and Tk3 lakh in cash from there.

Ali said the robbers had threatened to shoot him and his family if he tried to alert his neighbours to the robbery.

But villagers somehow became aware of the robbery and spread the word using the loudspeaker of the local mosque.

Most of the robbers managed to flee the scene as locals chased them, but three of them were caught and beaten up before being turned over to the police in the morning.

The three were then taken to Manikganj District Hospital, where two of them died while undergoing treatment, said Manikganj Sadar police station OC Abdur Rauf.

Police are yet to confirm their identities.
