Three people died when a truck hit a battery-run three-wheeler on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj this morning.
Shayestaganj highway police said the accident occurred on Fire Service Road around 6:45am.
Among the deceased, Mofizul Miah (30) of Barchandura village died on the spot.
Amsu Miah (28) of Muradpur village and Samad Miah (45) of Purba Padhabpur village were rushed to the local upazila health complex where doctors referred them to Syhlet Osmani Medical College Hospital. But they succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital, police said.
Md Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shayestaganj Highway Police Station, the 999 service informed police that a truck was stolen from Tangail's Mirzapur upazila last night.
Police found the same number plate on the truck that hit the auto-rickshaw, the OC said.
Contacted, truck owner M Momin Mah said he informed local police soon after his vehicle was stolen.
