Khulna oil tanker workers go on indefinite strike, disrupting fuel supplies

Oil tanker workers in Khulna have gone on an indefinite strike protesting an attack on one of their union leaders.

The agitated protesters halted fuel supplies and transportation from Padma, Meghna and Jamuna depots from 8am on Tuesday.

The tanker workers refused to refill or transport oil from the depots and demanded the arrest of assailants who attacked their union leader Al Amin on Monday.

Mir Moksed Ali, president of Khulna division's Tank-Lorry Workers' Union, said: “The workers have vowed to continue the strike until the assailants are arrested and brought to justice. They are currently demonstrating in front of the union office.”

At around 12pm on Monday, some people attacked Al Amin, line secretary of the union, in the Kashipur Banglar Mor area.

He was subsequently admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital with severe injuries.

In response to the incident, workers blocked several roads in the city to protest the attack and dispersed around 4pm after receiving assurance from the authorities.

Meanwhile, a case had been filed by Al Amin’s brother against two men and 12 unidentified people at Khalishpur police station, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kamal Hossain.
