Two killed, seven injured in Tangail road accident

At least two people were killed and seven others injured as an auto-rickshaw and pickup collided in front of Kalihati RS Govt Pilot High School in Kalihati municipality area on Tangail-Mymensingh road on Friday morning.

The deceased are auto-rickshaw driver Ramjan Ali, 55, son of Sajon Ali Mondol of Uttar Betdoba under Kalihati municipality and Rina Akter, 35, daughter of Iman Ali of village Birbashindha under Kalihati upazila in the district.

Officer-in-charge of Kalihati police station Mollah Azizur Rahman said that the accident took place when a Kalihati-bound battery-run auto-rickshaw collided with a pickup coming from the opposite direction leaving two dead on the spot and seven others injured.

The pickup driver fled from the spot following the accident but police were able to seize the auto-rickshaw and pickup from the spot.

Injured seven were primarily admitted at Kalihati Upazila Health Complex. Among them, two were critically injured and were referred to 250-bedded Tangail General Hospital, he added.

The bodies will be handed over to their relatives after finishing all the formalities, the police officer said.
