3 of a family dead as train runs over easy bike in Tangail

Three members of a family, including a woman and a child, were killed today when a train hit an easy bike at an unmanned level crossing in Tangail's Kalihati upazila.

The deceased are easy bike driver Taibul Hossain (43), his daughter Tahmina Begum (25), and her 14-month-old son Tawheed, reports our Tangail correspondent quoting Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station.

Talking to The Daily Star, the OC said the accident took place at an unmanned level crossing at Hatia at around 2:15pm, leaving the easy bike driver Taibul, and his grandson Tawhid, dead on the spot.

Tahmina was declared dead on arrival after being rushed to Tangail General Hospital, Sub-Inspector Nabin Hossain, in-charge of the police outpost at the hospital, said.

Quoting relatives, Mostafizur Rahman, a team leader of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Elenga, said Taibul, along with his daughter and grandson, was going to his village in Ghatail with his easy bike after taking them from Tahmina's in-laws' house in Hatia.

Police said the bodies would be handed over to the family following legal procedures.
