New Market area shops reopen after last night's meeting

Following the clashes between traders and Dhaka College students, several shops in New Market area have opened today.

Most shops in New Market, Gausia, Chandrima, and Nurjahan Market opened at around 11 am today. Customers were also seen in several shops.

However, five shops of Nurjahan Market that were damaged in fire did not reopen. Besides, due to central AC failure, 50-60 shops on the ground floor of Nurjahan Market remain closed.

Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, president of Dhaka New Market Business Owners' Association, told The Daily Star, "There was a meeting last night. Officials from the Ministry of Education, DMP officials, president and general secretary of Bangladesh Shop Owners' Association, representatives from various markets in New Market area, as well as teachers and students from Dhaka College attended the meeting. Shops opened today following decision taken at the meeting."
