Juba League leader Samrat freed on bail

The jail authorities on Wednesday freed suspended Juba League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat on bail as he was granted bails in all the five cases against him.

Samrat is facing charges relating to money laundering, illegal casino business, illegal bars, and illegal arms.

The Rapid Action Battalion arrested him on October 6, 2019 during the drive against illegal casino business and illegal bars.

‘On recipients of a copy of his bail order granted by a Dhaka court in the corruption case, we have withdrawn jail’s wardens from the Coronary unit of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University at about 4:30pm where Samrat has been under-treatment,’ Dhaka Central Jail’s senior superintendent Suvas Ghosh said.

BSMMU director (hospital) Brigadier General Md Nazrul Islam Khan, however, said that the medical board, which was monitoring his health, would take decision on Thursday if he should be released or not from the hospital.

‘His health condition is not good,’ he added.
