416 killed, 844 injured in road accidents during Eid holidays: PWA

At least 416 people were killed and 844 more were injured in 372 road accidents in 15 days during the recent Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, said a report of Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh on Thursday.

In the same period — from April 26 to May 10— two people were killed, 20 were injured in three waterways accidents and 25 were killed and four were injured in 27 railways accidents, the report said.

The report, prepared on the basis of news reports published in different media, was published at a press conference at Dhaka Reporter’s Unity, said a press release issued by the association.

Comparing with the journeys during Eid-Ul-Fitr in 2021 this year the numbers of road accidents of increased by 14.51 per cent, deaths by 22.35 per cent and injured by 26.3 per cent.

Tthe highest number of fatal accidents, 164, were motorcycles accidents and 145 people were killed in these accidents.

The programme was attended among others by the association secretary general Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury and Accident Research Institute director professor Md Hadiuzzaman.
