Three Moulvibazar war criminals sentenced to death

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Thursday sentenced three war criminals to death for committing crimes against humanity in Moulvibazar district during the Liberation War in 1971.

The convicts are — Abdul Aziz, his brother Md Abdul Matin, and Abdul Mannan, all residents of Baralekha upazila in Moulvibazar in Sylhet.

Of the convicts, Aziz was involved with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Matin was involved with Jamat-e-Islam Bangladesh.

Mannan was a leader of Islami Chhatra Shangha during the War of Independence in 1971.

They were tried on five counts of crimes against humanity.

Of them, Aziz and Mannan heard the verdict from the dock. Matin still remains absconding.

Aziz and Mannan were arrested on March 1 in 2016.

A three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam, pronounced the verdict.
