Bail petition of OC Pradeep’s wife rejected in ACC case

A divisional special judge’s court in Chattogram rejected the bail petition of the wife of Teknaf police station’s former officer-in-charge and condemned murderer Pradeep Kumar Das in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission for her alleged involvement in amassing illegal wealth.

Pradeep’s wife Chumki Karan, who remained absconding in the case for long, surrendered before the court at about 12:20pm on Monday and sought bail in the case, ACC public prosecutor Mahmudul Hoque said.

Judge Munsi Abdul Majid of the court cancelled her bail prayer and ordered to send her to jail.

He said that Monday was the scheduled date of the case and former OC Pradeep, also an accused in the case, was present in the case.

Teknaf police station’s former officer-in-charge Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife Chumki Karan were accused in the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission over amassing wealth of about Tk 2,35,98,419 from unknown sources and hiding information about wealth of about Tk 59,58,957.

ACC’s assistant director Md Riaz Uddin filed the case against Pradeep and his wife Chumki Karan on August 23, 2020. ACC investigation officer submitted the charge sheet against Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife Chumki Karan before the court of Chattogram Senior Metropolitan Session Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahaman in July 2021.
