DU student drowns in pond of Zahurul Haque Hall

A third year student of Dhaka University drowned while taking bath in the pond of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall on the university campus on Sunday afternoon.

Deceased Palash Ahmed, a student of Anthropology Department of the University, is also a resident student of the hall. He is from Jamalpur district.

Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall provost Abdur Rahim confirmed the news.

'A student took a bath in the pond of the hall and drowned. His friends and students of the hall rescued him and took him to Dhaka Medical College. He died while undergoing treatment there.'

His friends said that Palash drowned in the pond while bathing along with fellow students after playing on the hall playground at about 12:30pm.

After sometimes, he went missing, they said.

They said that they carried out a search and rescued him minutes later.

He was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and was kept under life support.

Later, on duty doctors declared him dead at about 2:30pm, said the DMCH police outpost in-charge Bachchu Mia.
