Ayesha Siddiqua Minni, who was sentenced to death for her involvement in the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif, has filed a bail petition with the High Court.
A High Court bench headed by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam is expected to hear the appeal on Monday, Minni’s lawyer, Shahinuzzaman told Bangla Tribune.
On June 26, 2019, Rifat, 22, was attacked with sharp weapons near the main gate of Barguna Government College while his wife Minni appeared to be trying to protect him from the attackers.
He died from his injuries at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital later in the evening.
The next day, Rifat’s father filed a case of murder at Sadar police station accusing 24 people.
On September 1, 2019, police submitted two separate charge sheets against Minni and 23 others, including 10 adults and 14 minors.
Later, on September 30, 2020, Barguna District and Sessions Judges’ Court sentenced six people including Ayesha Siddiqua Minni to death.
The court also acquitted four others named in the case.
Supreme Court Lawyer Jamiul Hoque Faisal said the High Court bench may hold a hearing on Minni's bail plea as well as her previous appeal against the death penalty and death reference.
The death references for the six death-row convicts are also at the High Court.
