At least six people, including five members of the same family, were killed and two others were injured in a road accident on the Rajbari-Kushtia regional highway in Kalukhali area in Rajbari on Wednesday
The accident took place as a truck, an easy bike and a car collided in front of the fire service office in Chandpur area on the highway at about 9:15am, said Kalukhali police officer-in-charge Nazmul Hasan.
He said that all the deceased, three women, two children and a man, were passengers of the easy bike.
Five of the deceased were from the same family and the rest was the driver of the easy bike.
‘The deceased were identified as autorickshaw driver M Nasir Uddin, 35, son of Boshir Miah, Mosiron Begum, 60, wife of Motaleb Hossain, Moriyom Begum, 45, and Morjina, 40, daughters of Motaleb, his daughter-in-law Rabeya, 30, and Morjina’s son, 10. They all were residents of village Puijor of Pangsha upazila in Rajbari,’ said Rajbari additional superintendent of police (Pangsha circle) Sumon Shaha.
Vehicular movement on the highway remained snapped till filing this report at about 11:30am.
That spot was already accident prone, the OC said.
Nazmul Hasan said that the truck was going to Kushtia from Dhaka and the easy bike was going to Dhaka from Kushtia while the car was behind the easy bike.
During accident the truck driver lost control and hit the easy bike which was mangled.
Then the truck hit the car.
Three people died on the spot and their bodies were kept at a nearby police outpost.
Three more died at Kalukhali upazila health complex where their bodies were kept for post-mortem examinations.
Two injured were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital from the upazila health complex as their condition deteriorated, the OC said.
One of the injured was the car’s passenger and another was the easy bike’s passenger, he said.
‘Soon after the accident the truck driver and his assistant escaped the scene; but we are trying to arrest them,’ the OC said.
Legal action would be taken in this regard, he added.
